Primal caveman death metallers, GOAT THE HEAD set the UKalight as main support for 1349 last week.
Their debut album, ‘Simian Supremacy’ was not out yet and it was their first tour outside Norway. But what happened in London last week, tells us that GOAT THE HEAD is a band the UK will not forget too soon – it all started on a sunny Thursday afternoon:
Busy walking over the famous Abbey Road zebra crossing for a Metal Hammer photoshoot, GOAT THE HEAD accrued a variety of reactions from motorists – whistles, thumbs up, looks of disbelief and enraged air-fists. Slightly different from what the The Beatles experienced over three decades ago. GOAT THE HEAD even managed to scare small children and sniff young ladies’ hair. But they ingratiated themselves with a female police office by agreeing to have a picture taken with her. She had been alerted by the owner of a nearby flat that a dubious bunch of naked guys were stealing soil, tree leaves and smearing them all over their bodies (a complaint was not filed in the end).
Not content about their close brush with the long arm of the British law, GOAT THE HEAD wreaked havoc in the Metal Hammer offices by hitting furniture and the floor with squeaking clubs and running around in irregular patterns, thus frightening the adjacent Classic Rock magazine veterans. Lead growler Per Spjøtvold was quickly led into a special room to record a few grunts for Rockworld TV and the rest of the Neanderthal crew were asked to leave the building, marched over to the nearest pub and were served a bunch of pint pacifiers.
Then darkness fell upon the capital and the threat of live primal caveman death metal descended upon the Underworld. The evening turned out to be nothing short of phenomenal. As the audience milled around waiting for the headliners, GOAT THE HEAD captured them and their mates away from the bar, like they did their stage coats. The audience gasped and waved their clubs in the air before erupting into a life-threatening circling mosh-pit where the sound of plastic hitting flesh and squeaky noise blended together nicely like café au lait. Delirious from witnessing such an inebriating performance, the crowd continued to hit one another hours after the cavemen’s performance came to an end. Dubious squeaks echoed across Camden High Street as late as 3am the following morning.
Their first tour outside of Norway may be behind them now. Still being a country at the forefront of all that’s musically hip and exciting, the UK has turned into a junkie and GOAT THE HEAD has become their drug of choice. Next fix: 11th December –GOAT THE HEAD will be guests of the Metal Hammer / XFM Radio / Rockworld TV sponsored event, ‘Get In The Ring’ where four rising stars will fight for metal supremacy.
